Before Mulan even came out, as a kid I was obsessed with Pocahontas and John Smith (Who wouldn't be obsessed with John Smith.?! *_*) It had been a long time since watched the movie until last week. I was pretty impressed with it. It's almost as near as good as Mulan (Mulan will always be the BEST for me...) But Is it me or those songs from Pocahontas can be an earworm? (I have Savages and Just Around the Riverbend stuck in my head.) Also; I HATED THE SEQUEL! I almost cried in the first movie when John Smith had to go back to England, and in the sequel she ends up not with the love of her life but with John freakin' Rolfe?!?! What the heck! I know they want to make it historically accurate, but c'mon. -_- Pocahontas and John Smith were a WAY BETTER COUPLE. Plus, how could she leave the gorgeous blonde for John Rolfe? -_- That's like saying Mulan left Shang for some other soldier. GAAAAH! > Okay, okay, I'm done venting. xD

Geez, yes, I know what you mean about the sequel. But I didn't think it's half as bad anymore after I heard about the historical background. That doesn't change a thing about the QUALITY of the movie though.
A good thing the sequel had however was that Ratcliff was there again, me approves.
And the first movie is juuuust great x3 Don't make me wanna sing that stuff so early in the morning ;P

Gosh, it's been a long time since I've seen the movie, maybe it's time to watch it again. I do remember to be hugely disappointed that Pocahontas didn't end up with the guy.Mind the fact that I was five then and wasn't informed of the true story. It was such a heartbreaker to me </3 Then the sequel came<.< How come Disney manages to dissapoint me everytime when they bring out a sequel? Now they started to care if it was historicaly correct or not? In the first movie they already made a tons of mistakes.Pocahontas was just a young girl, barely 10,when she saved John Smiths(who wasn't young and handsome btw) life and they never had any romance. She was married to John Rolfe because he believed he saved her soul.

You've got a point Levy. I think Disney did the sequel that way just so there wouldn't be no historical misguidance. Although I still hate the ending xD the movie wasn't half bad, especially with Ratcliff into. (the movie would be nothing without Ratcliff!) Although, I do agree with Eline. If Disney had already made many historical inaccuracies might as well end Smith and Pocahontas together, right? Lol
It's always like this with Disney sequels. =/

Mel Gibson? The homophobian, racism, alcohol abuse one? Damn... the one & only. it seriously SHOCKED me because I was always attracted to his voice xD John Smith was my first 'crush' lmao. But despite Mel's...behavior; he's a pretty darn good actor. He won me over with The Patriot & John Smith x3

I already knew Mel Gibson voiced John Smith way back before he had any of the serious problems right now, but since he's already facing too many charges with his newborn daughter and ex-girlfriend, it's kinda hard to picture the same way looking back on John Smith again XP
Anyway, I always thought Pocahontas was a great movie. I used to even have a doll of her and the compass necklace too as a kid. I think everyone about it was impressive, especially the way the movie open up. But it's been forever since I've watch it. I think the last time I recently saw it was on Valentine's Day 2004 with my niece when it was aired on Disney Channel.

It's seriously a mind-blowing movie. Still love it. Still have the doll too! I need to grow up...

John Smith was 40 and Pocahontas was 12!!! he wasn't neither handsome nor blond and John Rolfe had something to do with the tabacco bussiness. Disney really changed the story; but it would've been a little bit stange if they did something like the real story because pocahontas was way younger than John Smith. They had to do it "family friendly". Besides, it's an adaptation, so, doesn't have to be exactly as it happened. It would've haven been very commercial.

Fun(well, not really.) Fact;At the time Pocahontas was born, it was common for the Algonquian-speaking Virginia Indians to be given several personal names. She was given the names Matoaka and Amonute. Pocahontas was another name created later in her life when the English came.It meant 'little wanton'. Or in an more crude manner it means 'very *friendly* person'. Isn't history fun,you guys?
