You know, I've been kind of thinking about it. Do I have a constant fanon that I work with?
My answer to that question is:
Fanon - yes
Constant - no
Every fanfic, every oneshot that I write some plays off with a completely different setting, in a completely different - dareIsay "universe"
Nothing fits together, there is no continuity or "constancy" at all xD
Some examples:
Just Between Guardians: It deals with a Fanon thing called the "Bonding" which is - as the name states, a "bond" between guardian and guarded one that makes sure that the guardian always knows what's up with his guardee and therefor levels the powers.
The night of the forlorn Souls: Decided to do some Historical research for this one, to make it as realistic as possible, found too many mistakes or alteration in the Disneyversion and decided to just not bother with it anymore. The war has grown secondary either way.
The way Deng dies is the same as in JBG since the JBG Flashback is actually a scene that was nabbed from the old version of The Night. However The night has NO bonding whatsover, And it contains Ping as a huge tall dragon while in another Oneshot I made him a Tiger in the Fa-Ancestor Temple.
Portal Breach: Now this one is Interesting. The bonding exists in this universe, however Mushu is no... uhm "living creature". He's basically living stone, means he has no blood, when he's wounded he doesn't bleed but "dusts". And though some of this is heavy fanon I kinda grew to like this version.
'Coz I'm a dragon: Crossover. Need I say more? Chester is in this story - it obviously plays Years later (2008) in what probably is closest to the JBG universe, although I don't recall any Bonding reference in there. Also in the later Chapters Zippo AND Samiel make an appearance. You could say this fanfic is ONE BUNCH of fanon stuff mixed together - it has EVERY-THING xD
Shadowheart: Very deep and dark, not so much the funny little comedy the movie was. Concentrates a lot of the Spiritual Realm with Samiel and NO Chester for it is some alternative Version of Mulan 2.
Several Oneshots:
Try to stick as close to Canon as possible
Either have Chester in them or not
Have different views of Spirit realm and or the Ancestor Temple Community
SEVERAL versions of Ping %D
Eventually run a fluff-line of Mulan/Mushu
Srsly, every single one is different.
Now whether this is a good or a bad thing is up to you to decide. I tend to say it's, refreshing to keep and try new things over and over again, instead of driving deeper and deeper down a one way road of fanon that in the end you won't be able to come out again.
I've seen it happen to other fandoms, so...
Do YOU follow a fanon?
How do the readers react to your kind of fanon?
Do you think it is heavy or rather subtle?
Is it constant?
Or did you not even think about it until now?
