Alright, I would now like to... explore the different characterisations on Mushu depending on the voice Actor, because... ~
German Mushu is less "aggressive" than the English Original and you can already see that on the TRANSLATION of some parts and not only on the acting.
Here are some examples:
Original Version:
"What do you mean, a loser? What if I pop one of you antennae off and throw it across the yard, then who's the loser, me or you?"
German Version:
"What do you mean a loser? I could just knot your antannae together, then we will see who's the loser here! You or me?!"
Original Version:
"My little baby, off to destroy people"
German Version:
"There goes my baby and throws herself into battle"
There were more than these examples actually, but these are those I recall best, since I didn't takes notes or anything while I explored this - my bad.
Also there is a huge Character difference during the "Confession" szene.
I will directly rip off from the chatlog now, just because %D
[14:43] levy120: Original:
"Yeah. This ain't gonna be pretty. But don't you worry, okay? Things will work out. We started this thing together and that's how we'll finish it. I promise."
German:
"Yeah... that could get nasty. But don't let your head down! I'm here for you, after all! We started this thing together and that's why we go through with it. I promise."
[14:44] Alliriyan: ahhh right
[14:44] levy120: Catch the difference?
[14:45] Alliriyan: See, in the first one Mushu is a bit more obligated, and in the second he wants to be there with her?
And in the original, he doesn't think things will work BECAUSE he's there, he's got too used to them going wrong.
[14:46] Alliriyan: In short, for the original it's more about the 'thing' and in the Otto it's more about 'them'
[14:46] levy120: yup
[14:46] levy120: Makes my Mulan/Mushu fangirl squeal with joy
There are also differences "Acting" wise - naturally, since it's a different person.
A good example to use for this part is when we first get to meet Mushu during the Temple Sequence.
Eddie is really "passive-aggressive" and pissed off during that time while with Otto you can actually rather hear disappointment and
guilt filtering through.
That given, I'm having a lot of problems to do a proper characterisation for Mushu in my fanfics. I'm just clinging too badly to the Version I am used to and I figure that he might bite the ones who expect to hear Eddie in their heads a little.
I hear neither of them to be true. Just because it is not "Eddie-Mushu" I am writing and Otto-Mushu should speak German and not English
