Why doesn't the poor guy have not topic yet?
And poor indeed, in the sequel he's been merged with another ancestor :<

No one seems to care about the headless ancestor.

I feel so sorry for him... He'll get all that attention just to lose his head in the end.

Yeah, about that... It's hard to write a Prequel since you have like absolutely no surprises that you can work with We all KNOW that he's going to die. And the scary part is... Mushu and him get along SO WELL in the beginning, it makes me feel really bad considering how things WILL turn out in the end.

Well, Mushu will eventually get Mulan. So even if he and Fa Deng end up hating each other (as evident from the fact the dragon leads to the man's demise), he'll someday have someone who doesn't hate him.

Yeah, but then there's the whole marriage thing. You see, if we ignore the sequel for a second - because it was aweful - and therefore also ignore the fact that Shang "combined the family temples" Mulan would have never entered the Fa temple in her after life and hence Mushu would have been stuck with Deng.
Or all the other ancestors so to speak.
Cri-kee and Mulan are really a guiding-light in in his life.

Exactly! That girl and cricket keep the dragon sane. He needs those two. Which makes us wonder how he survived until then. Before he had Cri-Kee, who tried to talk sense into him?

Sense? What's that? Can you eat that?
He didn't really seem self-aware AT ALL before the Cricket shooed him out of the yard xD
I mean... c'mon, he was living a dream, or wishthinking, or both. Else the Ancestor wouldn't have to remind him of being demoted.

I think he was just trying to earn some credit with the Great Ancestor with his impressive entrance. Maybe he figured that if he looked the part, he might be able to convince them to give his job back. When he didn't get it with just that, he ended up following Cri-Kee's idea to follow her and twisting it into a plan to use to his advantage.

I'm actually rather fond of your version to be true, it made me see Mushu in a different light. I can see him preparing this kind of entrance in his head for the whole time he's been "sleeping" there. And yet, after they hammered his punishment back into his head you could tell that he was displeased, but obedient and rather reluctant to follow Cri-kee's idea at first.
Considering this though, the whole Great Stone Dragon incident is like a... big lipped aligator moment anyway %D

True, they never mention Stoney again. But it does serve to send Mushu off in the right direction. If he didn't accidentally smash the Great Stone Dragon, then he wouldn't have run off with Mulan.

Yeah, but the fact that Stoney DIDN'T wake up in first place will probably remain one of the worst unresolved plotholes of the whole movie xD
Aren't we getting deliciously Off-topic? >D
