Click meImo the whole Movie would have been better if they would have pulled it up like THIS. The finished product was just one mix of "cuddle-wuddle" and drama... The actual tension totally missed out... I don't know but you feel, but ever since they got this assignment I didn't feel that there was any danger at all and the bandits in the mountains had nothing to do with the actual enemy (who never showed up - lol). Mulan is a Warhero... Not even a princess - I hate it when people put her down like that, because as we see, she wasn't even going to be a bride, how can people think that she would like to be a PRINCESS then? xD But that's Off topic now... ^^° The only thing that bugs me at this scene is the "Now what fun would that be?" quote. I think it's a little bit out of Character for Mulan, since she was a serious Character in the first movie who tried to achieve something. I mean what IS this? Save China one time and you can do whatever you want? xD

Everything turns out so easy in the sequel. There's not enough action, they cut it all out. In the first movie the battle scenes and the fight in the palace against Shan Yu really keeps your eyes on the screen. I remember when I first saw the movie I was like OMG!!! Best Disney movie ever, I was going from laughter to tears, and then to laughter again. And in Mulan II, unfortunately I had really high expectations and ended up disappointed. Two or three years before the sequel was released, there were like rumors of the Mulan plot and it said that Shang and Mulan were sent on a secret mission, and Mushu would interfere, and it sounded perfect. I was thinking that there were some remaining Huns, or even Shan Yu was not completely defeated. Nevertheless, the final product was not quite what I expected. Most of the characters were not completely themselves in the movie. (There's a fanfic that tries to mend the harm done during the sequel, and said that the only reasonable explanation for them to be acting that way is that they were drugged... lol.) I've mentioned it several times, that what really really bummed me was how secondary characters took over the movie. Why did it even happen??? They might've as well called the movie The Three Princesses...Yes, they're ok, but it really annoyed me that they got a theme song, and they used it for the credits!! And come on!!! That song as sticky as it is, is really silly...I wanna be like other girls (We get the point, they want to be free and stuff...but what happened with being unique??) Well at least for me, I don't wanna be like other girls...I wanna be myself. The other song Here Beside me is actually beautiful, but of course most people do not read all the credits and it's like that song never existed Something else that sort of annoyed me was that they made Mushu a selfish brat who just cared about a stupid pedestal. I think it would've been more logical for that to happen before Mulan and Mushu saved China in the first movie. Back then Mushu was selfish, but when Mulan is discovered Mushu reflects upon his actions...he still wants to redeem himself. In the sequel breaking up Mulan and Shang for a pedestal...that sounds excesively selfish...even for Mushu. But anyways, it was not that bad, some of Mushu's pranks actually make the movie worth watching. I would've preferred that the movie would've been entirely about Mushu instead of the Wanna be like other girls girls. And what's up with the bad guys??? No real antagonists in the sequel. I guess that's where they kill all the fun. The bandits could have been replaced for real Huns wanting to avenge Shan Yu. And how long did that scene last like two minutes??? And they just escape...yeah good job...where are the martial arts?? And well the "King from Qi Gong" was he even evil? Or weren't there any eligible maidens in Qi Gong for his son?? What was the threat??? Did he have an army of soldiers that were going to attack the emperor or what?? Did he even want to be an emperor??? I mean...they should have stated a reason. The deleted scene would have worked out perfectly to the Mulan we know...with the omission of the where would all the fun be? perhaps. I mean that marriage proposal was awesome!! What we saw in the movie was Granny's and Fa Zhou's bet and background hug and kiss from Mulan and Shang... Like I said in the beginning everything was very easy in the sequel. I think Mulan never gets the chance to be witty like in the first movie. (which is another reason why I love the first movie.) She is left with one cannon and she aims it at the mountain...she rocks!!! Then she dresses up her comrades to fool the Huns, and she defeats Shan Yu with a fan...she's left with nothing and she then finds something useful...but in the sequel there's no real challenge...what's up with that? But Mulan is still my favorite movie and will always be my favorite movie, and I will always love all of the characters, who in the first movie actually have really interesting personalities.

I was thinking that there were some remaining Huns, or even Shan Yu was not completely defeated. There are only few Disney villains that make it in the sequel... like the Pocahontas villain whathisname? (of which the sequel sucked as well btw...) and Jafar. Though we don't see him die in the exploision. I figure that he did die that evening, but not from the explosion... I believe it barely slung him away - and still he must have been badly burned and wounded overall... A Shan-Yu Comeback would have been still awesome though... I like your idea for the Bandits concerning this matter. Some of the characters weren't at all oO" Especially Ling seemed MAJOR off imo... he also got a new voice in the German version that absolutely doesn't fit his old character. I liked Ling in the first movie, he was my fav of the Gang of three, but in the sequel, I found him annoying... (besides, blue doesn't suit him *cough*) I would LOVE to read that fanfic btw xD Do you have a link? x3 So true, so true *shaking head* Lol that's true, I never noticed THAT xD (Sure I know that it's the credits song, but I mean with the whole stealing the last impression of the movie away) Wasn't that what the first movie was all about? @@ Besides the fact that Mulan had totally different intentions of course ^^ TRUE THAT! I mean he was practically the villain Xx" (The wannabe villain to wannabe princesses with wannabe lovers and GEEZ, somebody stop this D8) I, myself believe that the pedestal might be the only thing he talks about, but I do believe that there is a huge point of jealousy involved. I mean just look at how he pwned poor Shang. The perfect warrior just turned into a jumping jack (which bother me the most actually). When I look back at the first movie, where Mushu treated Mulan more like a fosterling than an actual guarded one, I do imagine that he simply fears for Shang to not only steal away his pedestal, but also his beloved "little girl" My favourite line in this whole issue so "I was gonna loose you!" x3 The King from Qi Gong was more like a back up than the actual thread... because he and the Emperor had some shared enemy in this case The actual threat where the Mongols that didn't appear for one second in the movie. Words of truth <3 Nothing more to add here

It was ok, the story line i didnt mind except i wish it had a little more drama or something, and i wish the characters looked like they did in the first movie. That was the big thing that turned me off to it. And with the deleted scene it was cool but corny that he asked her like that to marry him.

You're absolutely right. Below the whole drama for the pedestal I think Mushu didn't want to lose Mulan...I always thought that was going to be the main reason why Mushu would meddle in their relationship, But in the movie you don't see that until the part where Mushu says" I was going to lose you" that Mushu reveals that, before that it's just about the pedestal, and that was kinda annoying. At least we Mulan and Mushu fans know that Mushu is not that selfish... ;D

But that's the Mushu fan here, so... xD

I think the 2nd movie was just to make mulan a disney princess, that really botherd me, they gave her the same line they all have "follow your heart", its a good quote but mulan never said anything about it in the first one, and another thing in the movie she acted to girly girl, I mean all they had to do was stap a ballgown on her and some jewlery and makeup and call her a disney princess, I thinking that they didn't watch the first one before they did this, and just did what ever they wanted to do. Another thing that bothers me is the movie is too flexable, I mean its cool every once in a wile but this went too far, I was reading some thing on it and it said it took them 7 years to make this movie, I was like "these people must have been on drugs or something, because look at all the other sequiles, most of them are animated very well, and it only took them about 4-5 years to do it "

I don't even think that a ballgown would suit her oO"
I'm pretty sure that they did watch the first one, otherwise they wouldn't know about most of the characters, but I don't think that they studied the movie well enough... and as you said, it's good possible that they wanted to pull off their own... thing... which just wasn't "Mulan".
And geez, Princess here, princess there, there were 3 princesses in the movie... THREE of them xD Aren't those enough already?
Well they needed lots of time for the first movie as well - since the animators were always having fun at the Disney Theme Park rather than working on the movie xDDD It sure does take long to create a movie... The flexibility gives a nice flow to the movie, which is a pretty importan part, but otherwise...
That's true it's like the whole target audience was meant to be girls... little girls... that love princesses and much colors. When I think of the first movie... it was one of the more mature/serious Disney movies, next to the Hunchback of Notre Dame. I even got my cousin to watch this movie with me because he liked the Huns (and he's someone who would watch 300 and play Counterstrike and stuff xD).

Welcome to the forum =)
Do you have any sources to back this up? Because I once read somewhere (forgot the source since that was serveral years ago...) that there would never be a Mulan 3. I'm willing to accept both of these facts, so go ahead an convince me ^^

Nice find. I still think it's kind of sad though that Mulan 2 wasn't made to live till it's full potential oh well that's what fanfics and role-play is for
