This is the dumbest possible title for one of the most interesting topics actually. And NO, this is NOT about Mushu getting children, it's about how he treats them.
Looking at some of my stuff here, I find myself confronting him with this issue ever so often.
We have "Destiny" - with baby Mulan
We have "Mushu's Babysitting adventure" - with Mulan's baby who loves his whiskers
We have Zippo's story - with kid-Zippo himself who loves Mushu's shinbone
We have "the Dragon Cave Crossover" - with lots and lots and lots of eggs
We have the CID series - with 14-year old teenage Jake
And of course we have Mulan herself who in the movie was supposed to be 16 years old - nowadays she'd still be a child, and Mushu's somehow living one step in the future already anyway (Newspaper (most likely with tomorrow's lotto numbers), toothbrush, MEGAPHONE and LARA CROFT - srsly. I believe he's got some secret door at his pedestal with gameboys and TVs and stuff hidden behind. I wouldn't even be surprised at seeing him playing Kingdom Hearts! - but I'm rambling now, back to topic).
I figure the reasons why I love this combination so much are
a) the huge contrast.
Fairly the only thing Mushu knows is death and ghosts and death and old people and more death. Babies on the other side are like the total contrary - they're the symbolism of life and for Mushu therefore cold and troubled water at the pretty much deepest end. Look! A challenge! Fire won't help you there ;P
b) the way he treats Mulan in general.
"My little baby's getting married!"
The way he treated Mulan especially in the first movie shows that he petty much likes to "play parent". If he'd actually be a good one is another story.
Why this treatment is the case, can have several reasons, here are a few possiblities.
b.1) his age.
Mushu has - and that's official - 500 years of Gong duty behind... and whatnot of stuff that had happened before. So compared to him, he prolly sees Mulan and her decent human-age(-live) and goes all "ah look a baby!"
16 years VS 500+
b.2.) The other reason could be that he's still somehow trying to get over the Ping incident. Of course he only makes a sidenote of it since he remember Ping firstly as a good friend than the traitor who stole his girlfried - yet, we barely know anything about this case. It could as well all be a denial - just like what we saw with Fa Deng. Though this possiblity alltogether is pure Fanon consideration.
So what do you think of Mushu... and children?
Seeing other fanfics I figure I'm not the only one who tought of that before... and even if it's only a slight hint.
And dudes, I now have the mental image of Mushu surrounded by babies stuck in my head. Poor guy's on the verge of despair ;P
Someone draw that for me! Now! Plz! >x3
