Yup that whole Honor stuff is what gives me the most trouble with my fanfics to be true... xx" It's a thing you can barely research and I'm just afraid to do mistakes with that... xD
Anyway, I've stumbled above this nice quote in someone's signature from another forum.
"Who ever appeals to the law aganist his fellow man is eather a fool or a coward. Any man who cannot take care of himself without that law is both. For wounded man shal say to his assailant, 'If I live, I will kill you. If I die, you are forgiven.' Such is the rule of honor" It has no source information.
I've been actually thinking of Shang's point of view while reading this. I think it works... rather well and yet, I'm still not sure if it does xD
Does anyone of you have hints for me what I should take care of and some dead-end tabus I should strictly avoid in the fanfics? ^^

Well, for Asian cultures especially, like the Chinese and the Japanese, honor is a very serious issue. Little things can bring dishonor both to you and your family. Basically, what you need to be careful of is to always have manners, to be polite and respectful, especially to those older than you and to those who are of a higher rank, class or status.
Well, I guess a HUGE taboo, especially back in those times, would be for a woman to bear child outside of marriage. We're talking huge dishonor here. And in the same vein, for a woman to remarry after her husband's death.
But what exactly are you looking for? Maybe if I had more specifics, I could be more clear about what is dishonorable or not.
